DTS® (Digital Theater Systems) Formats
DTS® offers premium sound quality with optimal channel separation and sound quality. Like Dolby® Digital, standard DTS® is a discrete 5.1-channel system; however, it uses less compression. DTS® Neo:6 derives 6-channel sound from a stereo (2-channel) soundtrack. DTS offers two DTS®-ES™ (Extended Surround) formats: DTS®-ES™ Discrete 6.1, which provides a 6.1-channel system with a discrete back surround channel; and DTS®-ES™ Matrix 6.1, which provides a 6.1-channel system with a matrix-encoded back surround channel. DTS® 96/24 offers you the sound quality of the 96/24 master. This format can be encoded on DVD-Video or in the video zone of DVD-Audio, so it can be played on all DVD players.

Dolby® Digital Formats
Dolby® is recognized as the pioneer in mutichannel audio reproduction. Dolby® Digital EX™ creates six full-bandwidth channels from 5.1-channel sources using a matrix decoder that derives three surround channels from the two in the original recording. Dolby® Pro Logic® IIx transforms any native stereo or 5.1 signal into a 6.1- or 7.1- channel output with Movie, Music and Game modes that enable you to tailor your listening experience to the source material. Game mode can deliver fullimpact special effects signals to the surround speakers.

HDMI™ (High-Definition Multimedia Interface)
The latest in digital interface technology is here and it goes by the name of HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface). This high-bandwidth interface supports not only remarkable amounts of uncompressed digital video but audio as well. Up to 5 Gbps of data, more than twice what’s needed for a high-definition movie with surround sound, can be handled with room for future requirements.
All this data is kept in the digital domain as there are no D/A or A/D conversions needed to ensure the highest sound and video quality available. Unparalleled amounts of compressed or uncompressed digital audio and video—up to 5 Gbps of data—can be handled with just one high-speed cable.

192 kHz/24-Bit Audio DACs
Performing at a full 192 kHz/24-bit level of resolution, these state-of-the-art digital-to-analog converters deliver audio performance that is second to none. They boast a higher dynamic range than standard D/A converters, and are virtually resistant to clock jitter -- which means you’ll enjoy the best performance possible from DVD-Audio discs and Super Audio CDs and cleaner sound from your regular DVDs and CDs.

WRAT2
Benefit 1: Uncommonly Low Negative-Feedback Design—so you’ll enjoy cleaner sound on programme peaks
Although NFB (negative feedback) is the most cost-effective way to reduce noise at lower frequencies, there’s a sonic price to pay: larger amounts of NFB severely inhibit an amplifier’s transient response—the ability to respond to large signal gains (e.g. explosions and musical finales)—and actually distort sound at high frequencies. That’s why our engineers use a low negative-feedback design, with audiophile-grade, close-tolerance components at critical points in the signal path, to achieve a frequency response out to 100 kHz. That means you can fully enjoy the sonic benefits from such high-resolution formats as DVD-Audio and Super Audio CD as well as your regular CDs and DVDs.
Benefit 2: Closed Ground-Loop Circuits—so you’ll enjoy greater maximum volume without distortion
If an amplifier’s ground potential (voltage) fluctuates during playback of movie soundtracks or musical performances, you wind up with unpleasant noise. In an open-loop circuit design, all circuits are connected to the power supply via one loop. If all circuits share the same loop (like on many amplifiers), the noise multiplies exponentially. Onkyo’s sophisticated closed-circuit design allows each circuit to go and return directly to the power supply. This cancels any individual circuit noise, and keeps the ground potential free of distortion.
Benefit 3: High Instantaneous-Current Capability—so you’ll enjoy film soundtracks with greater impact
Audio signals are very complex. After the amplifier outputs such signals to a speaker, the speaker itself accumulates energy. When the speaker reflexes, it sends energy back to the amplifier. The amplifier must immediately be able to supply a large amount of high current to cancel the speaker’s reflex energy, and instantaneously send out the next signal. The same high current is also necessary to handle speaker impedance fluctuations, which on occasion force an amplifier to provide four to six times its usual current load. The instantaneous current capability of even Onkyo’s least expensive WRAT receivers is far better than that of most conventional units. This is because competing designs commonly have less than half the current capability. The result? The high-current capability incorporated into all Onkyo receivers means your receiver can deliver movie soundtracks with theatre-like dynamics and clarity—so you’ll get the same exciting sonic slam that you experienced in the cinema.

7.1-Channel Input

With the upcoming release of HD-DVD and Blu-ray Disc, Dolby Digital and DTS have prepared audio formats that represent the future of digital audio entertainment. By connecting an HD-DVD or Blu-ray Disc player with the respective high-definition audio codecs to the receiver via its 7.1-multichannel inputs, you will be able to enjoy superior audio quality.

CinemaFILTER™
The tonal balance of a film soundtrack can be edgy and bright when played back over audio equipment in your home - this is because film soundtracks are designed to be played back in large theaters, using commercial equipment. Onkyo has developed its own solution that restores the correct tonal balance of a movie soundtrack in the smaller environs of your home theater.

Theater Dimensional
You can experience the excitement of surround sound from as few as two ordinary speakers.
Onkyo's exclusive Theater-Dimensional circuitry takes the complexity out of conventional surround-sound setups and lets you experience the excitement of surround sound from as few as two ordinary speakers. Want more? Theater-Dimensional's unique multi-speaker modes let you place up to five speakers conveniently by the TV, for the most realistic virtual-surround sound possible.

RDS (Radio Data System)
Since 1987, this system has simplified the tuning of programming of an increasing number of radio frequencies. Incorporated into radio receivers, the system selects programs and displays them on the receiver’s alpha-numerical display. Also, a microprocessor enables the receiver to determine the transmitter frequency that gives the best quality reception.

RI (Remote Interactive)
Doing More with Your iPod - Through Onkyo's Imaginative Sight and Sound
Simply place your iPod in the DS-A1 Remote Interactive Dock connected to any Onkyo RI-compatible amplifier/receiver to experience the powerfully rich sound of Onkyo audio-video components. Control your music from your RI remote and charge your iPod while you enjoy your iPod’s digital music -and photos - through the power of Onkyo’s expansive sound, from mini systems to separate components to home theater systems. Unlike purely iPod-dedicated systems, you can fully integrate the convenience and storage capacity of your iPod with all your other Onkyo home entertainment components - and share the experience with everyone.

Audyssey 2EQ
Even though loudspeakers are designed to deliver sound without distortion or coloration, the acoustic problems presented by a room’s profile will determine the overall sound presentation. Walls, furniture and other objects reflect and absorb sound creating distortion that is unique to your own space. To counter this, Audyssey 2EQ detects speaker polarity & distance, and then sets levels, delays, and crossovers and measures room acoustics at two listening positions. In this way, a wider listening area is covered than by simply measuring at one position as with many systems. Some systems try to correct for multiple positions and then average the results out for a solution. However, this simply smooths out the frequency response peaks and dips. Audyssey 2EQ corrects problems in both frequency response and time domain (where most of the problems lie) in the entire listening area. The results are immediately obvious—a clear, precise and natural sound.
