Nun schafft der Onkyo TX-SR674E endgültig die Sensation: Dank reifer, mitreißender, charismatischer akustischer Darstellung schnappt sich das preisgünstige Gerät nicht nur den begehrten Titel des Preis-/Leistungssiegers in unserem Test, sondern auch den zweiten Platz insgesamt! Nichts macht es deutlicher als dieser Durchmarsch - nicht nur in seiner Leistungsliga, sondern auch in höheren Preisklassen gibt es wenig, was dem 674 Paroli bieten kann. Er beherrscht nahezu alle Spielarten: Er detailliert fein, nervt aber nicht mit analytischer Langeweile, sondern legt gleichzeitig eine sehr lobenswerte Dynamik an den Tag. Überall platziert er sich im Vorderfeld, und wenn es den über allen stehenden RX-V1700 nicht gegeben hätte bzw. ein anderer AV-Receiver zum Test angetreten wäre: Der nicht einmal 700 € kostende Onkyo hätte alle geschlagen. Man hat einfach seine Hausaufgaben besonders gut gemacht: PLIIx und Neo:6 sind beide hervorragend integriert, besonders das luftig-unangestrengte, klare Neo:6 Music gefällt. Im Stereobetrieb punktet der Onkyo mit erstaunlich gutem Bühnenaufbau und lebendiger Gesamtwiedergabe. Geht es um die Darstellung von Mehrkanal-Material, greifen die sehr ausgewogene räumliche Präsentation, der recht präzise, dennoch aber zupackende Bass und die komplette, bezüglich der Darbietungstiefe fein gestaffelte Stimmwiedergabe. Das "Orchestra" DSP glänzt überdies mit extrem guten Leistungen bei der Wiedergabe klassischer Orchestermusik: Das Ergebnis ist in Bezug auf die Dosierung des Halls stimmig, die Instrumente werden mit klarer Struktur und nicht verwaschen präsentiert.

Testurteil: AV-Receiver Mastertest Herbst 2006 2. Platz - Preis-/Leistungssieger - 10 Sterne

(...) Der Onkyo TX-SR604E steht im Schatten seines "großen Bruders", der praktisch überall mit herausragenden Zensuren auftrumpfen kann. Der 604 ist für knapp 550 € keine schlechte Okkasion, und gäbe es keinen 674, könnte man eigentlich sehr zufrieden sein. Klanglich ist er weniger brillant ausgelegt als der 674 und vermittelt ein weniger kraftvolles Gefühl, gerade bei der Wiedergabe sehr energiereicher musikalischer Inhalte. Die Haptik, Optik und Ausstattung sind für 550 € auf hohem Level.

(...) Im Hörtest wurde der Receiver diesen Erwartungen jedoch spielerisch gerecht. Stereo-Musik gefiel mit präziser Zeichnung in den Höhen, präsenten Mitten und solidem Grundtonbereich. Kurz: die Mischung stimmte. So besaß die charakteristische Stimme von Norah Jones den gewohnten Schmelz und Volumen, während Pink Floyd's "Time" mit eindringlichem, präzisem Intro und toller Atmospäre punkten konnte. Auch die Tiefbass-Wiedergabe ließ nichts zu wünschen übrig, was sich in druckvoll präzisen Anschlägen äußerte. (...) Seine Mehrkanal-Talente setzte der Onkyo auch im Filmbereich ein, wo er Soundtracks, wie "U-571" die nötige Atmosphäre verlieh. Mit brachialen Wasserbomben-Explosionen und drückender Stimmung im Rumpf des U-Bootes verlegte er den Krieg direkt in den Hörraum. Die Bass-Attacken kamen hierbei präzise und überaus druckvoll, während Stimmen auch im Chaos von berstendem Metall und umherfliegenden Teilen gut separiert wurden. Mit leistungsfähigen Endstufen und musikalischem Klang konnte der Onkyo auf der ganzen Linie überzeugen.
Fazit: Der TX-SR674E bietet genau das, wofür Onkyo steht: sehr guten Klang in allen Einsatzgebieten. Dabei bleibt der Receiver sehr gut bedienbar und glänzt mit hervorragender Ausstattung. Speziell Musikliebhaber werden den harmonischen Klang des TX-SR674E im eigenen Heimkino schätzen, gerade mit dem Wissen, es auch einmal richtig krachen lassen zu können.

(...) There are more differences apparent when the CS-715DAB is fired up. Playing Lambchop´s "The Decline of Country and Western Civilization", the Onkyo impresses with its surefooted detail retrieval, winningly natural vocal delivery and well-disciplined low frequency capability. There's not too much stridency at the top end, either, and the healthy power output allowes to party-starting volumes.

Listen to the complete package and you´re in for a musical treat.Outcast, Beethoven, whatever - the CS-515DAB combo delivers it with all skill, and no small degree of finesse. Good timing is rare or any micro, but this system has it pegged.The system punches forcefully, too, while sound quality from the tuner, whether DAB, FM or MW, is more-than-adequate. The CS-515DAB is a terrific product. Don´t buy any other micro without trying this one out first.

When it comes to its features it shows that it is pretty much up-to-date; it is able to convert incoming video signals and it features an automatic adjustment system. it is easy to operate, and its remote control is extremely handy and clearly arranged. The player’s display is clear and easy to read and its resolution is excellent. Typical Onkyo: when it comes to sound the DV-SP503E does not lag behind any other machine – it is rather the opposite: considering its price this universal player is pretty ambitious. Its high tone range is clear and brilliant but never over the top and the playback of middle tones is soft and natural. With its clear and precise bass tones the DV-SP503E is very good at playing back diverse music in a very sophisticated way. Its internal Dolby Digital and DTS Decoder is just another one of its impressive features. Its fresh sound is also very striking. We were also impressed by how lively its diverse surround sound played back any effects. With its nearly 18 kilogrammes Onkyo's digital amplifier is a great performer, especially in its price range. It is very unlikely that Onkyo owners will miss the multi-functional controls of the big components as this receiver can be operated through intuition - provided the user has some basic knowledge of surround technology. Moreover sources and sound can be controlled directly on the player. Allocating the digital inputs to a certain source can also be done easily and the operating manual – not to mention the adjustment process – is easy to understand. This Onkyo can be adjusted without giving the user a headache: once the microphone is plugged into the provided socket at the front, the receiver will stop the running programme and start the adjustment process immediately after pressing the start button. Other machines need to be persuaded to start the adjustment process by pressing countless buttons via more or less well-designed menus – a process that often requires a closer look at the operating manual. For impulses the Onkyo used force to move the membranes like an explosion, however its sound was always soft. And once the impulses stopped it turned itself down significantly. Immediately people were wondering whether there was any doping involved: Has anybody adjusted the loudness or the volume? Not at all! A check of the volume control, which is done via buttons on the player, proved that the Onkyo adjusted the lower octaves with utmost precision, devotion and honesty – just like a high-end amplifier from a top company. It was the receiver, which built up an amazing sound stage with credibly huge and dynamic instruments and voices. Given that this is a surround receiver this is an amazing performance. And what’s even more impressive is the fact that this performance came from a reasonably priced component. The Onkyo did not only impress with its two-channel sound, it also did amazingly well in the multi-channel test. Within the 1,500-Euro price range you can certainly make a bargain. This means the Onkyo’s appearance is simple but sophisticated and even users over 30 years of age can still manage to use it without frustration. Its sound is as hearty as a Ribeye steak with Tabasco. This “sound and operating phenomenon” is available for a lot less dollars. The performance this player offers through its component video connection is superb and is competitive with its price rivals, including those with HDMI sockets. [...] An excellent player: high quality picture through component video connections - though no HDMI output - and superb sound too.

This Onkyo system consists of the 7.1-AV-Receiver TX-SR603E and the DVD/SACD-Player DV-SP503E. Both components are very elegantly designed and feature an aluminium front panel that is available in either black or silver. It has also performed brilliantly in the listening and viewing test. The 603’s measuring system performed amazingly well and impressed with its powerful 7x105 watts at 8 Ohm. The 503 turned out to be a versatile source for sound and picture, and showed that it can cope with anything from MP3 to DivX-Videos. It can also manage all kinds of analogue video transmissions, from scart to component.
Summary: Onkyo’s stunning package opens a door to the upper middle-class. + well-equipped

Just catching a glimpse of this AV receiver makes Hi-fi fans want more. Every button on the front panel blends in with the case perfectly, and even though the volume control knob is massive it is precise at the same time. Size, transmission frequency, volume and delay can be individually configured for all inputs of each loudspeaker group. All sound types can be adjusted to your personal preference and individually edited, which can be done independently for every source. This receiver offers endless opportunities to either adapt your output material or play back 1:1. Bass sounds that are too deep can be adjusted with the built-in notch filter. Onkyo is the only company that offers a room adjustment system, however, the company did not include an automatic measuring system and a full equaliser for all frequencies, which is not a problem considering how mediocre all the other stereo systems perform. Whilst beginners should consult the operating manual, experts will easily understand the system as it features clear controls that are also used as “enter” keys. We had a hard time getting away from this “configuration wonder” as none of our systems has ever got that close to perfection. Our computer freaks will be pleased to see that we have included a network input at the back, and with Onkyo´s own “Net-Tune Central” software the receiver is able to access all your music from either your hard drive or from radio stations on the internet. However, what’s much more important than all those features is the Onkyo’s sound, which is definitely not disappointing. When it comes to sound Onkyo has proved once again that sophisticated balance is much more important than unconditional boasting. It has never been so easy to distinguish and listen to the voices of the acting protagonists. The Onkyo’s power reserves are endless, its bass is relentless and sounds pitch black. But despite all this, it keeps its power games at bay and takes the listeners on a journey through all frequency levels. On the whole its sound character is suitable for any output material and almost every loudspeaker. Using the Onkyo as a switchboard gives you a lot of freedom when it comes to choosing loudspeakers, and you can always be sure that it is able to deal with all picture and sound formats. Professional home cinema systems would also be impressed with this Onkyo as it is able to play in two completely independent rooms (however, not at the same time). So, having two separate rooms – on for watching movies and the other one for listening to concerts - is no longer utopia. Of course, this Onkyo also offers delay functions for picture and sound, and high-quality loudspeakers are normally better off with two separate outputs. There may be some single components that are better and cheaper, however, when put together as a complete system none of them would be able to keep up with the Onkyo. We are absolutely sure that this won’t change in the near future. In this way this receiver has earned our utmost recognition as it is a technical masterpiece.

„If a DVD player is heavier than a middle-class receiver, features a high-quality remote control and has a video input it is obvious that this player is pretty special. Even the loader’s performance is impressive: after the front panel has been lowered, the drive comes out in a very smooth fashion – just like a diva. It is possible to connect the satellite receiver with the player via the S-video input, which means that the impressive video technology is not only noticeable when watching DVDs but also when watching television. When it comes to the quality of the picture, the player is pretty equal to its tall receiver brother, and even at the steep price of 4,500 Euro such quality is not a matter of course. So it is lucky that Onkyo’s engineers kept up their attention to detail when they designed the remote control. Even though it is not exactly handy, the huge “chocolate bar” is easy to handle and can be operated in the dark without problems. Thanks to its background illumination and clear arrangement of the keys it is almost impossible to make a typing error.  The Onkyo even comes with all necessary cables, which are by no means cheap free-bees but are definitely useful. The CD playback is full and mature. The sound picture is a good compromise between precise details and dimensional illusion. High resolution data carriers such as SACD or DVD audio are definitely not neglected as it seems that the Onkyo celebrates every single byte. The player does not sound like a cold digital technology system, but it sounds pleasant and honest. The overall quality of the picture is almost as good as the quality of the sound. One of the Onkyo’s fortes is its ability to eliminate small differences and to play mediocre recordings in a way that is not harmful to the eyes. The picture does not lose any of its naturalness even when played via HDMI with an activated Scaler. It even emanates the flair of a good film role. Furthermore the drive and navigation are pretty slick, and its correction mode can even get rid of scratches on CDs.

Onkyo’s TX-SR703E offers excellent acoustic qualities. What is most striking about this AV receiver is its harmonious and practical design. You can listen to the multi-channel playback of music and film for hours on end without feeling bored or without it getting on your nerves. With its full, clear and detailed stereo playback this AV receiver sets high standards. Like its predecessor, the sound quality of the DV-SP503E is hard to exceed. The soft sound never seems boring, but is clear and lively without limits. When it comes to sophisticated playback it even exceeds the sound of the Denon DVD-1920 as the Denon is not as harmonious as Onkyo’s 503. The elegant Onkyo is also outstandingly manufactured. There is no other player in the price range of €400 that seems more sophisticated – and that brings us to another basic feature: its picture quality. Here Onkyo’s small universal player has reached excellent results: the picture is sharp and homogenous. We were impressed by its natural depiction of colours, and its relatively simple De-Interlacer only has a few weaknesses. The little video equaliser is great and easy to handle - compared with earlier versions of this EQ from the pioneer repertoire we were pleased to notice the obvious improvement after the picture had been optimised. And, what’s more - the Onkyo has already proved to be the best acoustician in the mid price range.
