Whether decoding the DTS DH-Master 7.1 soundtracks to our Blu-ray of Oldboy or the standard, Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtracks to a DVD version of Control, the TX-NR905 delivers a soundstage of simply prodigious dimensions. (…)The Onkyo is able to sweep from the very bottom of the frequency range (where it is monumentally solid and substantial) to the very top (crisp and attacking) seamlessly and it allows dialogue the space to communicate without being overwhelmed by the sonic pyrotechnics going on all around. (…)Key things to note about this Onkyo are the presence of four HDMI inputs and two outputs. It´s about as future-proof as you´re likely to need for a good while and you´ll be able to have a TV and projector connected at the same time. (…)HDMI apart, there are three component inputs which means that even if you were to have more than four pieces of hi-def kit, you will be able to route HD images through the receiver. The speaker outputs allow for a full 7.1 system, and a separate twin-channel zone that can run elsewhere in the house.
