Onkyo re-invents its hi-fi separates range for today's music loversPress Release dated: 1 Sep 2011
Onkyo confirms its renewed focus on two-channel stereo reproduction with the release of four top quality hi-fi components, loaded with innovative technological features that will set new performance benchmarks in today’s rapidly evolving marketplace.
The first three units in this release - the A-9070 Integrated Stereo Amplifier, T-4070 Network Tuner, and C-7070 CD player – have been designed to perform as a complete premium home audio system but can also function as standalone components. Minimalist design, rugged engineering, a multitude of connectivity options and a startlingly transparent sound will appeal both to hi-fi newcomers and more seasoned music lovers looking to upgrade their equipment.
Those wanting to upgrade to an even higher level of build quality and performance will be interested in the fourth product in this release, the Onkyo 'Reference' series A-9000R Integrated Stereo Amplifier. This is a direct descendant of the high-end P-3000R pre-amp and M-5000R power amp launched last year and incorporates much of the same technology.
A-9070 Integrated Stereo Amplifier
The A-9070 amplifier can perform in four modes – as an integrated amp, a power amp, a pre-amp or as a split pre/power amp - providing unrivalled flexibility when it comes to incorporating other components into the hi-fi system. On its own it provides ample power with a parallel push-pull amplification design, three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry, dedicated Wolfson 192 kHz/24-bit DACs for symmetrically designed L/R channels and a bank of four substantial 15,000µf capacitors.
To preserve signal integrity, this unit – like all the products being launched - features Onkyo's new DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry) modules. Effectively a fully discrete substitute for the op-amps commonly used in most hi-fi components DIDRC reduces ultra high frequency noise, enhancing clarity, dynamics and musical fidelity.
Closed ground-loop circuits and vibration-damping construction combine to produce clear sound across a wide dynamic range. An independently controllable DIDRC headphone amplifier, fully discrete MM/MC phono stage (also featuring DIDRC) and gold-plated phono inputs/loudspeaker terminals demonstrate Onkyo's meticulous attention to detail.
C-7070 Compact Disc Player
The C-7070 is a versatile, finely honed audio component designed to play back a wide range of audio formats while carefully preserving the integrity of the original signal. Every aspect of the player is engineered around this objective, which is why it features vibration-damping brass legs, a 1.6mm thick flat base panel, a full-floating circuit board, a pair of Wolfson 192 kHz/24-bit DACs, and Onkyo’s newly developed Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry. These improvements all work in concert to reduce noise, distortion, and interference for pristine sound quality.
There's versatility too. The C-7070 connects to iPod/iPhone devices via the USB port, and can play back music from flash-memory drives. Other desirable features include a three-stage dimmer function, a brushed aluminum front panel, a solid (and silent loading) die-cast aluminum CD tray, gold-plated audio terminals, and headphone amplifier differential circuitry.
T-4070 Network Tuner
Relatively speaking, Network Tuners are still in their infancy but the T-4070 makes a strong claim to being the best featured example currently on the market. For starters, there's an FM tuner provided but it's also partnered by a DAB+ tuner. Then there are the Net Radio services. The T-4070 can be synced with a home network to access user-customisable music streaming services and personalized radio stations such as Spotify, AUPEO! and vTuner.
On a more physical level the direct digital USB port on the front panel can connect to an iPod/iPhone and USB memory sticks. Users can also play back audio libraries held on computers or NAS drives thanks to DLNA 1.5-compatibility.
Controlling and accessing such a diverse range of content sources is a challenge but Onkyo's free iPhone and Android apps make the task simple and straighforward: In the near future, the T-4070 will be compatible with Onkyo’s Remote App for smart phones, which allows the user’s iPhone or Android to work as a full-function remote controller.
Unusually, the T-4070 can stream all sources out as a digital signal as well as analogue, including AM and FM signals.
Excellent versatility then which is also married to technological innovation and premium build quality. DIDRC circuitry, for instance, reduces subtle signal noise for pristine playback while separate Wolfson 192 kHz/24-bit chips for L/R channels ensure accurate audio processing. The unit boasts gold-plated RCA, AES/EBU, and coaxial terminals for maximum signal purity.
A-9000R Integrated Stereo Amplifier
Built to exacting standards by - and for – true music lovers, the Reference-series A-9000R offers a compelling combination of musicality, versatility and user-friendliness.
From a technological point of view the A-9000R includes A-WRAT technology, three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry and top quality Amphenol AES/EBU digital connectors. It employs asynchronous signal transfer over USB to support pristine playback of HD audio. On top of this, the A-9000R also incorporates separate 192 kHz/24-bit Wolfson DACs for L/R channels, a noise-reducing DIDRC sound module, all housed within a low-vibration chassis to minimize interference and preserve signal quality.
As one of Onkyo’s new R-series hi-fi components, the unit also differs from the A-9070 in that it incorporates a highly efficient quad push-pull amplification design and larger 18,000µf capacitors (as opposed to parallel push-pull amplification and 15,000uf capacitors).
Like its sibling, however, the Reference-series model can be configured in four different amplification modes allowing it to work in host of system configurations, making it an ideal choice for enthusiasts who want to invest a little further in a state-of-the-art Onkyo home hi-fi system.
These four pedigree hi-fi separates are further testament to Onkyo’s unwavering commitment to high-fidelity sound, intuitive operation and superb build quality, at prices that remain widely accessible to all.
